Welcome to “What’s the Point?”, a blog where I get to share my views on how tennis can transcend the competitive stage to become a powerful tool for learning life skills. With over 20 years of coaching experience at all levels, I’ve seen firsthand how tennis sharpens problem-solving abilities, helps players adapt to various environments and situations, and instills a deep appreciation for strong principles and fair play.
The purpose of this blog is also to underscore the notion that tennis, despite commonly being considered an individual(istic) sport, offers invaluable lessons that are most effectively learned in a group setting, encouraging continuous interaction and collaboration. Tennis is more than just a game—it’s a microcosm of life, and I’m here to show you just how.
A little about me: my background extends beyond tennis into areas such as art and education, and I firmly believe that the sport has taught me much of what I know and apply today in all areas of my life. Coaching, to me, is an expansive activity that goes far beyond sportsmanship, technique, strategy, physical fitness, and mental performance. It involves discipline, commitment, academic achievement, emotional well-being, confidence, ethics, and responsibility. Think of it as life lessons served with a racket in hand!
In this blog, you can expect to find a mix of everything—my coaching philosophies, practical tips, inspiring player stories, and even a sprinkle of life advice. Whether you’re a player, a coach, a parent, or simply someone who loves tennis, hopefully there’s something here for you.
As a non-native English speaker, please don’t expect flawless writing—but I promise to do my best and share my genuine thoughts and experiences with you. There might be a few quirky phrases and playful mistakes along the way, but hey, that’s part of the business, right?
I’m excited to take this journey with you and dive deep into how tennis can shape not just athletes, but well-rounded individuals. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on all this and more!
Welcome aboard, and let’s see what’s the point!
